Indiana Ranks 35th for Property Tax Bills
(2007-08-24)
WEST LAFAYETTE, IN
(wbaa) -
A survey by the U-S Census Bureau is ranking states according to property taxes. Three million Americans were asked how much they paid in 2005.
Indiana's median property tax bill is one-thousand-79- dollars. That amount ranks Indiana as the 35th highest.
Purdue Professor of Agriculture Economics Larry DeBoer says he's heard that figure before.
DeBoer says changes to the state's taxes over the past few years may have changed Indiana's rank.
But he thinks it would still in the bottom half when it comes to property tax burden.
