State Leaders Urge Counties to Impose Income Tax
(2007-08-07)
INDIANAPOLIS, IN
(wbaa) -
Governor Mitch Daniels, Senate President Pro Tem David Long and House Speaker Pat Bauer released a joint statement Tuesday. In it, the three state discussions continue on reforming the system and some progress has been made, but a final agreement has not been reached.
They say only seven counties have imposed an income tax to provide relief, and more need to do so. A new state law allows for income taxes to be levied up to 2.5%.
Tippecanoe County leaders declined to act before the October 1st deadline, saying they want more information on the effect such a move would have. © Copyright 2012, wbaa
