Lafayette Rejects Sewage Tunnel Bid
(2007-07-03)
LAFAYETTE, IN
(wbaa) -
The Lafayette Board of Works has rejected the lone bid for a downtown sewer project. Water Pollution Control Superintendent Brad Talley says the bid came in at more than TWICE the engineer's estimate.
Talley says the part of the problem is the Wisconsin- based company calculated costs for a 12-foot diameter tunnel. He says the plans call for one that is ten-feet wide.
The tunnel will keep raw sewage from spilling into the Wabash River during heavy rain.
It will run along Second Street, from the Pearl River Lift Station to Riehle Plaza.
Talley hopes to re-bid the project in the next couple of months.
