Bid for Sewer Project Twice the Estimate
(2007-05-16)
LAFAYETTE, IN
(wbaa) -
Lafayette's Water Pollution Control Superintendent says a downtown sewer project will be delayed, after the sole bid came in much higher than expected. Brad Talley says the 28-point-two-Million dollar bid is twice the engineer's estimate.
Talley hopes to re-bid the project in a few weeks.
The underground tunnel will be built from the Pearl River Lift Station, which is currently under construction near First and Chestnut Streets, run along Second Street, and come out at Riehle Plaza.
It is designed to keep raw sewage from running into the Wabash River during heavy rainfall.
Talley says the city planned to begin construction in June, but that will likely be delayed by at least a couple of months.
