Congress: Purdue Investigation Insufficient
(2007-05-11)
WEST LAFAYETTE, IN
(wbaa) -
A Congressional subcommittee says Purdue's investigation into allegations of research misconduct is insufficient. The subcommittee was reviewing the university's investigation of professor Rusi Taleyarkhan.
Taleyarkhan came to Purdue in 2003 to continue research into bubble fusion, a process that blasts sound waves into bubbles, creating nuclear energy.
In a letter sent to Purdue president Martin Jischke, U.S. Representative Brad Miller, who is in charge of the Congressional investigation, says Purdue is a premier research and educational institution.
He says "I sincerely hope that the next inquiry will be conducted in a manner worthy of your great institution."
Jischke says Purdue will add one or more scientists unaffiliated with the university to assist.
More witnesses are expected to be contacted.
