The Best Of Our Knowledge # 1126 It's not often that a children's book stands out...but that's what the people at National Geographic set out to do. Today on The Best Of Our Knowledge, we'll talk to the book's author. Then we'll check in on a collage in Massachusetts which just received nearly a million dollars to establish an early education resource center. We'll also spend an academic minute trying to figure out if you'd rather be happy or rich.
The Best Of Our Knowledge # 1125 Astronomers have discovered the darkest known exoplanet - a distant, Jupiter-sized gas giant known as TrES-2b. And the most amazing thing about this discovery is that, apparently, you can find one too if you know where to look. Today on The Best Of Our Knowledge, our astrobiology series takes us hundreds of light years away, beyond our galaxy...right in our back yard. We'll also spend an academic minute finding out how we actually know what orbiting distant stars.
The Best Of Our Knowledge # 1124 This is the time of year when many high school seniors really start revving up their preparations for the SAT. Today on The Best Of Our Knowledge, a student who aced his SAT will tell us how he upped his score. Then we'll visit a school in San Francisco that has grade schools writing novels, playing songs...and learning to weld. And we'll spend an academic minute in the expanding world of wireless networks.
The Best Of Our Knowledge # 1123 Kyle Baumgartner was a high school athlete with a promising professional future when, in the blink of an eye...a concussion and brain injury ended his dreams of a professional career in sports...and almost ended his life. Today on The Best Of Our Knowledge, we'll hear his story of living with a brain injury. We'll also visit a center where music therapy is trying reach the most injured minds. And we'll spend an academic minute looking at the merits of disability studies.

The Best Of Our Knowledge # 1116 Once a year, the president of the United state goes before a joint session of congress to deliver the State Of the Union Address. And also once a year, we listen for the parts about education and let you know about it. Today on The Best Of Our Knowledge community colleges react to the president's speech. We'll also hear about some small towns plans for consolidating school services to try and save money. And then we'll hear how English language purists don't stand a chance in modern society.
The Best Of Our Knowledge # 1115 Today on The Best Of Our Knowledge, we'll hear from a group of middle schoolers who spent last summer pretty much searching for life on Mars. We'll also spend an Academic Minute not quite that far away...we'll stop at the Moon. For a little sight seeing.
The Best Of Our Knowledge # 1114 Today on The Best Of Our Knowledge...we'll hear about a school in Brooklyn that uses Applied Behavioral Analysis to help teach children with autism. We'll also hear how Educational Collaborative in Massachusetts are coming under increase scrutiny...stir up a little controversy talking about school choice...and, since we're getting a little political, we'll spend an Academic Minute examining America's perceived shift to the right.

We'll also hear about the problems facing schools in low income areas of Chicago...and spend an Academic Minute finding out how to deal with a toxic person in the workplace.

While we are still getting established with our new production staff and host...we thought we'd take some time to look back at some of the highlights of the past year.
