(WAMC) - The Nature Conservancy bought Follensby Pond near Tupper Lake in the central Adirondacks on Thursday. The 14,600-acre forest tract borders the High Peaks wilderness area and includes more than 10 miles of frontage on the Raquette River. The Conservancy's purchase is exciting people not only for its biological significance, but also because Follensby Pond is considered the birthplace of America's wilderness preservation movement.
