Safe Dams or Abandoned Dams? CHENANGO COUNTY, NY (WAMC) - There are more than five thousand dams in New York State and the state is trying to respond to increasing concerns about their safety. But Hudson Valley bureau chief Susan Barnett reports that many dam owners say they're being forced to choose between safety and going broke.
