Mark Hertsgaard
(WAMC) - Mark Hertsgaard, an independent journalist based in San Francisco, is the author of six books on politics, culture and the environment that have been translated into sixteen languages. He has covered climate change for twenty years for many of the world's leading newspapers and magazines, including Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, The Nation, Time, L'espresso and Die Zeit.

Hertsgaard's newest book, forthcoming in 2010 from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, is Generation Hot: Living Through the Storm of Climate Change. His previous books include The Eagle's Shadow: Why America Fascinates and Infuriates the World (2002); Earth Odyssey: Around the World In Search of Our Environmental Future (1998); On Bended Knee: The Press and the Reagan Presidency (1988).

Hertsgaard is also a prolific print and broadcast journalist, covering intern~~nal affairs, U.S. politics, he environment and many other subjects. His journalism has appeared in, among others, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Independent (of London), The Guardian, La Repubblica, NRC Handelsblad, Yomiuri Shimbun and Ha'aretz. He has contributed egular commentaries to numerous public radio programs, including Morning Edition of National Public Radio, Living On Earth of PRI and Marketplace of American Public Media, and has been interviewed on many U.S. television current affairs programs, including Nightline, Today, Larry King end The Bill Moyers Journal. He is also the political correspondent for Link TV, a national satellite hannel, where he hosts the weekly investigative news program Spotlight.

Hertsgaard has lectured at Harvard, Yale and Stanford and taught non-fiction writing at Johns Hopkins nd the University of California at Berkeley School of Journalism.
