About 150 people were in attendance, including Governor Pataki, Erie County Executive Giambra, Mayor Anthony Masiello and several members of the Western New York State Legislature delegation.
Geico President and CEO Tony Nicely praised Pataki for playing a pivotal role in bringing the company to Amherst.
"When we were looking in New England, Ohio, Pennsylvania and other states...the only call I got from any governor, was from Governor Pataki," Nicley said.
Pataki says Geico is going to create hundreds of badly needed jobs.
"They're talking here at Geico about 2500 jobs," Pataki said.
Pataki praised the local workforce and said people want to live and work in Western New York.
Geico currently employs 375 people at its temporary office facility. It expects to employ 500 by the end of the year and eventually as many as 2500. © Copyright 2012, wned
