The end of the year is a busy time for charities as they provide during the holiday season, and get ready for a new year with a mix of anticipation and uncertainty. The United Way begins 2012 with a concern about an effort in Congress to remove the tax deduction for charitable donations.

Brian Hassatt, the President & CEO of the United Way of the Greater Capital Region, and Susan Hager, President of the United Way of New York State spoke with WAMC's Brian Shields, to talk about the challenges they face, and the New Year. Susan Hager says the loss of the tax deduction could have a devastating effect on charities including the United Way.
