A state Senate panel has begun taking testimony on bills that would tighten regulations around the use of medical marijuana.
The measures would allow for only 10 facilities in Michigan to grow medical marijuana. The voter-approved law allows medical marijuana users to grow their own plants.
Hundreds of medical marijuana users showed up to testify against the measures. Robert Redden is a disabled war veteran who walks with a cane.
"When I was at my doctor's at the VA hospital she made me aware that I wasn't picking up quite as many pain pills as I was before because of this act," says Redden, "All I want to say is let this law work for a little bit longer before you guys start tinkering with it."
Supporters of the law say the Senate bills would put medical marijuana users and growers at risk of indictment. The chairman of the committee says the bills need a lot of work before the panel will vote on them. © Copyright 2012, MPRN
