Fearing Obama administration, gun owners rush to buy
(2008-10-23)
(wpr) - Some gun enthusiasts say they're afraid a Barack Obama Administration will ban so-called assault weapons, so they're buying a lot more of them now in the run-up to the election.

Command Surplus in Florida is a distributor to gun shops around the country, including shops in Wyoming. Daniel Posner is a partner in the firm. He says sales of assault-style weapons have increased by about 30 percent in the last three months.

"There's a very big concern that if Barack Obama is elected president, there's going to be a gun ban, they are not going to be able to purchase assault rifle or assault weapons, or I should say, their definition of what an assault weapon is."

The semi-automatic weapons are also called A-R-style. A ban on that type of gun expired in 2004. Barack Obama supports making that ban permanent. He also says he does not support any ban on shotguns, hunting rifles and handguns. The National Rifle Association has spent 2-point-3 million dollars on ads against Obama.
