1906 Atlanta Race Riots
ATLANTA, GEORGIA
(WABE) -
It was 100 years ago today that the Atlanta Race Riots occurred. The four days of riots were a combination of growing racial tensions that had been simmering since then end of the American Civil War. It came to a head on September 22nd 1906. Fueled by rhetoric from white politicians and newspaper accounts about a black crime wave - a group of white men and boys attacked blacks indiscriminately. WABE's David Barasoain has this report.
