United Negro College Fund Expects Increase in Applicants
A
(WABE) -
The latest figures from United Negro College Fund show more than 3-hundred Georgia scholarships were awarded in 2007 and 99 went to students in the Atlanta area.
UNCF President and CEO, Michael Lomax says already the number of applicants is double than in years past))
((we operate about 4-hundred and award about 89- 90 million dollars annually--))
Lomax says if students can't find money for college then many are forced to leave.
He says when that happens-- then the schools suffer:
((there not financially wealthy institutions--and they don't have large endowments))
Clark Atlanta for example blamed their recent layoffs on decline in the value of its endowment and shrinking enrollment.
