Thurmond: Obama has better plan for GA's economy
(2008-09-19)
(WABE) - One day after announcing the state's unemployment rate is at a 15 year high, Georgia's Labor Commissioner backed the economic plan from Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama.

There are 300 thousand unemployed Georgians who can't find a job. That number is likely to grow in the coming months according to Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond.

The Georgia Democrat told reporters Obama has the best plan to keep the unemployment rate in the state and nation from growing out of control.

THURMOND: We need a program that will bail out America's middle class. I'm not opposed necessarily to the bailout of AIG but I also believe that America's middle class is hurting and we need a President and we need a White House that's going to be concerned about the every working class people in this state.

Thurmond points to Obama's plan to provide a tax cut for households making less than 100 thousand dollars a year.

In response, Republicans accuse Thurmond of using the plight of Georgia's unemployed to score political points for Obama.
