It took 14 minutes for the state to put Aldeman to death. He's become the 20th man executed in Georgia by lethal injection of a three-drug cocktail.
A corrections spokesperson says Alderman barely ate his last meal and declined an offer to make a final statement.
The execution took place at Jackson State Prison. Relatives of Alderman's slain wife were at the prison but did not watch the execution.
Earlier in the day, Alderman's father was one of many trying to convince the pardons and paroles board to commute Alderman's death sentence.
However, opponents argue Alderman instigated the murder of his wife Barbara.
Alderman was first convicted in 1974. An appeals court overturned the conviction, however he was convicted a second time in 1984.
