Downtown Connector Paving Finished Early, Contractor Could Yield $1M Bonus
ATLANTA, GA
(WABE) -
Paving along the downtown connector is finished, some three months ahead of schedule.
"Absolutely enjoy it for a moment; it's a nice smooth ride," says Crystal Paulk-Buchannon, spokeswoman with the Georgia Department of Transportation. She says G-DOT could have prolonged the paving over two summers, working just a couple of hours at a time, late at night. Instead, the state chose to do it on weekends, despite the traffic mess that caused.
For completing the project early, paving company E.R. Snell will get a thousand-dollar a day bonus up to a million dollars.
"At this time we're still working on the details, but they seem to be eligible for their entire bonus," Buchannon says. S
Buchannon says the pavement should hold up for about a decade.
