Georgia Tech remembers 9-11 on 7th anniversary
(2008-09-11)
(WABE) - One of many local remembrances of the September 11th terrorist attacks took place at Georgia Tech.

On campus, students who lost family and friends shared their stories.

An intimate group of students and teachers heard from Sean Donnelly. He's a sophomore studying mechanical engineering. Seven years ago, his uncle Kevin, a New York firefighter in the ladder 3 unit, was wrapping up a 24 hour shift when the North Tower was hit. Through speakers, people heard Sean say his uncle went up to the 60th floor and worked his way down.

DONNELLY: We've heard from people that Kevin was able to go all the way down to the 15th floor before stopping to help someone out. He told others to keep going. Kevin as well as the 11 other firemen from Ladder 3 never made it out.

That same day, a business group including stockbroker turned graduate student Harry Block had breakfast. Block remembers many ate inside the Windows of the World restaurant in the North Tower.

BLOCK: Thankfully, we survived but I personally lost 16 friends that day and I'll never forget them.

The memorial at Georgia Tech also included almost 3 thousand Americans flags on display.
