The Georgia Clean Energy Property Tax Credit came into effect July 1st. The credits give homeowners incentive to install clean-energy technologies such as solar panels and solar water heaters. The credits are capped at $2.5 million. But in its first month, the program has only issued $30,000 in tax credits.
"We expect that number to rise in the near future," says Cyrus Bhedwar, manager of the Georgia Energy Program. He says businesses are now able to apply for the credits too, and warns homeowners they should act quickly.
"Certainly since it's a first come, first served basis, you want to be in line so that you don't run that risk of installing a system and then having the credit run out before you get the application in, says Bhedwar.
The upgrades must be completed before applying for the credits. For more information on the green' energy tax credits, head to: http://www.GEFA.org
