Election 2008
1st Martin ad airs in Georgia
ATLANTA, GA
(WABE) -
Today, television stations statewide will begin airing Democrat Jim Martin's first US Senate campaign ad of the general election.
Martin's ad starts with Max Cleland; the Vietnam veteran who lost his US Senate seat to Republican Saxby Chambliss. Most remember Chambliss' 2004 ad accusing Cleland of not supporting homeland security bills. In today's ad, however, Cleland throws an indirect jab at Chambliss for not serving in the military unlike Martin.
CLELAND: Jim Martin served with distinction as an Army officer in Vietnam and he'll do the same thing in the US Senate.
Martin told reporters Cleland will help him recapture the seat for Democrats.
MARTIN: We need to have change in Washington and I'd be honored to try to carry on the work that he was doing in the Senate and doing his whole life.
Martin wouldn't say how much he's spent to air the ad only calling it a substantial amount. He's paid for the aid to air this week alone. © Copyright 2009, WABE
