GA religious conservatives back Palin
(2008-09-03)
(WABE) - The news that one of Sarah Palin's daughters is pregnant has not affected some of her political support in Georgia.

A religious conservative group is still backing the Republican Party's presumptive Vice Presidential nominee.

On Friday, Georgia Christian Coalition President Jim Beck called Palin a political breath of fresh air. He also applauded her pro-life record and championed her for carrying her fifth child, which has down syndrome, to full term.

Beck says those feelings didn't change yesterday once he heard Palin's 17 year old daughter Bristol is 5 months pregnant.

BECK: So, the issue for Christians is never will some make a mistake. The issue is will they learn from their mistakes and how do they handle their mistakes. Do they do that with integrity and character and from all indications that's exactly what the Palin family will help their daughter do in this case.

In a statement, Palin says her daughter and the child's father will get married. Beck did call the situation tragic. But he also said Palin's daughter's actions do not undermine the VP nominee's stance on abstinence and other related issues.
