DeKalb CEO heads towards runoff
ATLANTA, GA
(WABE) -
DeKalb County residents yesterday voted for a new CEO and they'll have to do so again in 3 weeks.
Last night, Burrell Ellis hoped to take the next step up DeKalb's political ladder. He's been a DeKalb County Commissioner since 2000.
And he led the field of 5 candidates last night with 47 percent of the vote. However, that was not enough to avoid a runoff.
So in three weeks, Ellis will go up against State Representative Stan Watson who finished second. Watson has held a seat in the state legislature since 1997 and now heads the DeKalb County delegation.
The winner will replace Vernon Jones as CEO who was not able to run for re-election because of term limits.
Jones was DeKalb's 1st black CEO. Both Ellis and Watson are also African-American.
The runoff is scheduled for August 5th. © Copyright 2010, WABE
