Georgia Legislature
A Conversation with Sadie Fields, Outgoing Leader of the Georgia Christian Alliance (Part 2)
Perhaps the high-water mark of her career came in 2004, when Fields, then the head of the Georgia Christian Coalition, led the drive for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage in the state.
During the most heated days of that battle came an unexpected moment of humor, and even mutual respect, between Fields and one of her most outspoken opponents: the late Allen Thornell of the gay rights group Georgia Equality.
It began when Creative Loafing ran a mock photo of Fields, with her head pasted onto the body of a man dressed in a leather bustier and torn, black fishnet stockings. In part 2 of her conversation with (me) (WABE's Denis O'Hayer), Fields began by recalling her surprising reaction to that photo.
