Dueling Press Events from Barnes and Baker
(2010-05-06)
(WABE) - Inside Altea Therapeutics, an Atlanta medical technology company, Baker said bio-tech businesses are the wave of the future.

Baker: "Unfortunately, over the last decade or so Georgia has simply been outhustled."

Outhustled, Baker says by other states with better incentives. To compete, Baker wants to give 150 million dollars worth of Georgia tax credits to venture capital firms. The firms can then sell the credits on the open market. Baker hopes Georgia companies with tax liabilities will buy the credits. The firms will also recruit bio-tech businesses to Georgia with the promise of investments as bait. Baker's theory is those companies could use the money to hire the state's unemployed.

Baker:"We will make Georgia the bio tech capitol of America and I believe a leader in the world. This plan alone will create 25 thousand new jobs at least."

Overall, Baker says he has a plan to create 100 thousand jobs.
