State revenues drop 16% in September
Governor Perdue Thursday said the state's revenue collections were down 16 percent last month.
Income, sales and corporate tax collections are still sluggish.
Perdue spokesman Bert Brantley says the Governor expected a poor September.
BRANTLEY: "While they are sobering and certainly concerning, this is the reason why we made those really painful cuts that for the first time included mandatory state furloughs which we had been able to avoid but just couldn't avoid anymore because of the steep revenue declines we have seen."
State revenue collections have dropped since December. Brantley says the Governor will continue to watch financial trends and inform legislative leaders.
Perdue is not pushing a special session or further budget cuts at this time. © Copyright 2012, WABE
