Details of proposed lease agreement between Delta and Atlanta
ATLANTA, GA
(WABE) -
Next week, an Atlanta City Council committee will consider a new lease agreement between Atlanta's airport and Delta Air Lines.
WABE's Charles Edwards reports
The current agreement expires next year. The new lease would go to 2017.
It keeps Delta at Hartsfield-Jackson International. Atlanta wants bonds to cover the 1-point-3 billion dollars needed to complete the Maynard Jackson International Terminal. Under the proposal, Delta will help foot the bill. The Terminal was a major sticking point between the two sides.
The proposal also settles a long standing issue over airport revenue. The airport's atrium was originally supposed to be a hotel. But when the city decided to use the space for restaurants and other stores, airlines decided not to fund the idea. Later, they pushed for a piece of the pie.
Now, Atlanta says it owes airlines almost 4 million dollars in atrium revenue. Most of it would go to Delta.
