Forbes Magazine Ranks Georgia Among Best for Business
(2009-09-25)
(WABE) - Forbes.com has just released a 50-state ranking for the "Best States for Business." As WABE's Jim Burress tells us, Georgia falls near the top.

Georgia is the 6th best state in the nation for business, according to the Forbes rankings.

Achieving that slot means we fared pretty well in most of the magazine's 33-categories.

The Peach State wins number one status for its "Regulatory Environment." That includes everything from transportation infrastructure to the state's bond rating, which is pretty good says Forbes' Associate Editor Kurt Badenhausen:

"The government's finances are in good shape. They have a "AAA" rating from Moody's. That's the top rating, and something only nine states across the country can say."

Not so good -our "Quality of Life." In that category, Georgia is 33rd--one worse than Wyoming.

"Georgia really came up short when you look at the schools in the area, health, as well as crime."

Virginia ranks the "Best State for Business" -- Rhode Island, the worst.
