Atlanta grabs college football hall of fame
ATLANTA, GA
(WABE) -
The College Football Hall of Fame is moving to Atlanta.
Organizers hope to score big with high school students and tourists.
WABE's Charles Edwards reports
The University of Notre Dame and the College Football Hall of Fame have gone hand in hand. The school is famous for football. Plus, it and the Hall have been in South Bend, Indiana.
But after 15 years, the Hall is leaving. Steve Hatchel heads the National Football Foundation.
HATCHEL: "We were very happy in South Bend. But coming to Atlanta gives us a show piece and the ability to create a platform altogether different."
Hatchel says the move will boost its high school scholarship program. It also adds to Atlanta's list of hot spots. Convention and Visitors Bureau head William Pate says Atlanta's known for football games.
PATE: "Folks who can't get tickets to those games because they sell out will still be able to have the college football experience."
The 50 million dollar Hall will likely be in Centennial Olympic Park and attract a half million tourists annually.
