Reed unveils transition team
The team is partly comprised of Reed's formal rivals.
WABE's Charles Edwards reports
Former City Council President Lisa Borders, who lost to Reed in the general election, co-chairs the 18 member transition team.
BORDERS: "It spans the city the experiences and expertise spans all of the challenges that we believe we are going to encounter as a city."
The team includes Atlanta-North Georgia Labor Council President Charlie Fleming, State Senator Nan Orrock and Turner Broadcasting CEO Phil Kent.
The team will get recommendations from search committees on who should be Atlanta's fire and police chiefs. Other committees will search for the city's next attorney, public works director, and chief financial officer.
As Borders ran through the list of search committee members, one name jumped out.
BORDERS: "And then we have Mrs. Mary Norwood "
The same Mary Norwood who lost to Reed in the runoff will help pick Atlanta's new fire chief. Anti-crime advocate Kyle Keyser, another former Mayoral candidate, is on the police chief committee. Reed says a 4th former candidate, Jesse Spikes, will also be on a search committee.
REED: "There is a very big difference between running a campaign and governing and I believe that the process we're using is the healthiest way that we can extend a hand to all of the citizens in Atlanta."
Each committee will search nationally and narrow the field down to 12 candidates per job. The full committee will chop the list down to 5 applicants per job with Mayor Reed making the final decision.
