Veterans Day in Gwinnett County
WABE's Charles Edwards reports
The crowd listened to Amazing Grace played on bagpipes. It was one of the tributes during Gwinnett's ceremony. The event happened in front of the county's fallen heroes memorial. It's a row of columns dedicated to America's wars and its soldiers killed while serving.
However, Army Colonel Aubrey Garner of Fort McPherson says the day is not just for soldiers of past wars.
GARNER: "Significant to today's ceremony is honoring two local heroes to answer the call of duty and gave their lives for the good of others to preserve our way of life and ensure that our freedom endures."
1st sergeant John David Blair of Lawrenceville and staff sergeant Alex French IV of Milledgeville were both in the 48th Brigade of the Army National Guard. Both died in Afghanistan this year. Both will have their names added to Gwinnett's memorial.
