Star Running Back Killed in Murder Suicide

(WABE) - Rajaan Bennett was one of the state's top high school football players who was headed to Vanderbilt University to play for the Commodores.
Powder Springs report 18 year Rajaan Bennett was killed in a murder suicide.

Fighting back tears, Vanderbilt football coach Bobby Johnson told reporters in Nashville that 18-year-old Rajaan (Ray-john) Bennett was more than just an athlete but a young man heavily depended on by his family. Coach Johnson believes Bennett was protecting them to his death.


Bennett was a star running back at McEachern High School.
He was also the Atlanta Journal Constitution's .Class 5A offensive player of the year.
Sports writer Chip Towers covers college football recruiting for the AJC.
He says Bennett was the heart and soul of the McEachern team as well as team captain.
Towers says Bennett was a solid student athlete and also excelled in the classroom.

Authorities believe Rajaan Bennett was trying to protect his family from a former boyfriend of his mother's that's when he was shot and killed.
