Georgia Lawmaker Proposes Anti-Vasectomy Legislation
The legislation is being proposed by Representative Yasmin Neal. She says she authored the bill to combat another House bill, which would limit abortions at and after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
"We as women don't need the legislature to determine what we do with our bodies, but in doing so if that's a move the legislature wants to make, there's going to be corresponding legislation that does the same thing to men as well."
Neal says she opposes the abortion legislation that's currently being considered because it does not make exceptions for rape or incest. She also says abortion is already outlawed in the state after 26 weeks of pregnancy except to protect a woman's life and health. But supporters of the abortion legislation say the procedure should be outlawed at 20 weeks because fetuses can feel pain. Opponents dispute that timetable.
