Teens re-roof homes for Metro Atlanta Project ATLANTA, GA (WABE) - There are a dozen teens with hammers pounding away on the roof of this East Atlanta home.
The team is made up of students in 6th through 12th grade with the older teens, who are veterans of this project, leading the group. These teens come from various church groups around Atlanta to take part in this annual project. They give up a week of their summer to come out here and work in the hot sun re-roofing the house of someone in need. Still, many of the teens return to participate year after year including high school freshman Bea Smith who is back for her second time.
"As soon as you go home all you do is sleep for a week, but it's definitely worth it because my favorite part is when you finish and you get to see the home owners, and they're all happy because they just got a new roof"
Not to worry, there are plenty of adult volunteers on hand as well, making sure that the construction runs smoothly, and of course, ensuring that the teens stay hydrated and safe.
