Emory Global Health Expert Says H1N1Outbreak Not Over; But Response Helped Contain It
ATLANTA, GA
(WABE) -
On Friday, Feb. 12th, the Centers for Disease Control here in Atlanta estimated the H-1-N-1 flu has affected 57 million Americans killing nearly 11,700. But, there has not been any widespread reporting of new H-1-N-1 cases in any state for over a month. Doctor Carlos del Rio is professor and chair of the Department of Global Health at the Rollins School of Public Health; he's also a professor of medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Emory University School of Medicine. He told WABE's Denis O'Hayer the slower-than-expected spread of the H1N1 virus was just one of several bits of good news so far this flu season. (By the way, Dr. del Rio said, if you haven't gotten an H1N1 shot this season, it's a good idea for nearly everyone--but, of course, check with your doctor first.)
