Former State GOP Chairman Looks At the Early Battle for Governor; Warns Party Not to Get Complacent
(2010-02-05)
Chuck Clay, Former Georgia Republican Party Chairman Brock, Clay, Calhoun & Rogers
(WABE) - Democratic and Republican candidates for Georgia Governor have started the debate season. But it's Republicans who've had the nastier internal battles so far; as many candidates in the crowded field have gone after frontrunner--and State Insurance Commissioner--John Oxendine. And Oxendine got into a war of words with Republican Congressman Lynn Westmoreland. Westmoreland accused Oxendine of trying to link him to a criminal probe--all because the Congressman is not supporting Oxendine for Governor.
Chuck Clay is a former GOP state chairman, who now does independent public policy work. He told WABE's Denis O'Hayer the attacks from his opponents could mean both good news and bad news for Oxendine.
