Atlanta homeless shelter foreclosed
The Metro Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless now has one last month to come up with more than $500,000 to pay off its overdue loans.
Anita Beatty, the director of the Task Force, knows that's unlikely.
But she says the shelter, which serves 7-800 people a day, is too important to lose.
BEATTY: "WE MOVE 50, 60 PEOPLE, SOMETIMES 100 PEOPLE A MONTH OUT OF THIS FACILITY INTO HOUSING. WE HAVE FOUR DIFFERENT PROGRAMS. WE HAVE RECOVERY GROUPS, WE HAVE TREATMENT AGENCIES COMING IN AND HELPING. WE HAVE ALL KINDS OF THINGS GOING ON HERE."
Beatty is hoping to get a loan extension as a result of an ongoing lawsuit against the city of Atlanta.
For years, the two sides have fought over the shelter's methods in treating the homeless.
