Georgia Gets Failing Grade Preterm Birth Rate
(2009-11-17)
Credti: March of Dimes
(WABE) - They struggle to survive babies born too soon less than 37 completed weeks of gestation.
While their battle is tough it's not hopeless and Georgia needs to do something about it:
((I am ashamed to hear that Georgia again failed))

Dr. Ramkumar Menon is an associate professor of epidemiology at Emory University.
He says while the medical community is baffled by the exact causes of pre-term births that doesn't mean a blind eye is turned towards enhancing prevention and awareness:

((access to proper nutrition is an issue, access to proper research data and funding is an issue, what we are seeing are a culmination all these factors everything seem to fail when we try to prevent pre-term birth from happening))

Dr. Menon says there's no time to point fingers and place blame instead he's optimistic where to begin in addressing the crisis:

((from the ground level-from the research level from the public health point of view and from the patient health care point of view and from the patient healthcare point of view we all need to get together and collectively how to solve this problem))

There was some good news about Georgia on the report...there was a decline in the pre-term birth rate among uninsured women of child-bearing age.
