Atlantans React to SoVo and David Magazine Closure

Philip Rafshoon of Outwrite Bookstore in Midtown thinks the timing was terrible.
RAFSHOON: We had a very busy pride, and a lot of news, and Southern Voice had been so instrumental in covering the raid on the Eagle Bar, and the associated rallies. They've been very involved and really giving a voice to our community during the citywide elections, that it just felt so wrong, and it feels like such a wrong time.
Rafshoon read Southern Voice religiously, and even insisted that his staff read it cover to cover each week to stay abreast of the community's issues.
But across the street, at the Flying Biscuit Caf , 23-year old assistant manager Kiel Belcher feels no big loss:
BELCHER: It seems like an older voice, you know? It doesn't seem like it's for a younger person like me. Just because the articles are so serious and stuff like that, so
The majority owner of the papers' publisher was under federal receivership since last year, because of trouble with some loans.

Atlantans are still processing the sudden news that the city's two major publications for the gay and lesbian community have shut down. Southern Voice reported LGBT news for 21 years, and David Magazine covered entertainment.null
