"Functional illiteracy" is the inability to read and write in everyday life situations. In metro Atlanta, the number of adult individuals who fall into that category could be as many as 800,000. For the past 41 years, Literacy Action, Inc. has provided adult basic education to those in need. But, who are the "functionally illiterate"? Emily Ellison provides a profile.
