T.I. Arrest Could Impact Prosecutors
The officer's recommendation could end up with U.S. District Judge Charles Pannell. In March, Pannell approved a guilty plea agreement between T.I. and federal prosecutors over gun charges.
"Generally, judges in this district, and in other federal districts, will give a lot of weight to the recommendation from the assigned probation officer," said criminal defense attorney and WABE legal analyst Page Pate.
While the probation officer is key, Pate argues there's also pressure on the U.S. Attorney's office in Atlanta. Critics say prosecutors offered T.I. a light sentence despite his felon status. T.I. was sentenced to 1,000 community service hours and a year in prison. © Copyright 2012, WABE
