Police Answer Some--Not All--of Citizen Review Board's Questions

(WABE) - Atlanta's Citizen Review Board continues questioning officers involved in a controversial raid on the Atlanta Eagle, a Midtown gay bar.

Wednesday, six officers sat down to answer the CRB's questions about the September raid.

"I wasn't sure what to expect," said CRB Executive Director Cristina Beamud. "Clearly, I knew there was some concerns about officers raising their Fifth Amendment privileges in this setting. But I've been pleasantly surprised that they've decided to explain what happened," she said.

Still, Beamud said two of the six officers did take the Fifth and refused to answer some questions. Because it's open investigation, she can't say what those questions were.

Earlier this month, the Atlanta City Council issued subpoenas after officers said they would not answer the Board's questions about the raid.

An internal investigation continues into alleged police misconduct. The city and APD are also defendants in a federal civil rights lawsuit.
