All cars out of collapsed parking deck
ATLANTA, GA
(WABE) -
Every car inside the midtown Atlanta parking deck that partially collapsed on Monday has been removed.
The next step is determining what caused the deck's 5th floor to give damaging 45 cars in the process.
From Monday afternoon to Thursday afternoon, the area surrounding the Centergy parking deck looked like a parking lot itself. The area was filled with cars and trucks from emergency crews from across Georgia.
Now that between 700 and 800 cars have been removed from the deck, emergency crews have left too. Harry Conley is President of 5th Street Management, which runs the deck's daily operations.
CONLEY: "At this stage and the fire department has confirmed the property as it is now is safe for entry. It is not opened and we're now focusing on the repair of the sections that you can see that were obviously damaged and removed."
But before repairs take place, Centergy, the group which owns the deck, has to find out why it collapsed. Conley says structural engineers and contractors are reviewing design and construction documents. © Copyright 2009, WABE
