Georgia Economic Indicator Shows Distant Recovery
(2009-07-02)
(WABE) - A major economic barometer shows the state's economy continues to struggle.

For the second straight month, Georgia's Purchasing Manager's Index -or PMI-report shows declines in the state's manufacturing segment.

New orders were up by two-tenths of a percent in June, but they're still down nearly eight percent from just April.

Production, employment, supply deliveries and finished inventories all declined too.

That's a problem when it comes to people finding jobs, says Kennesaw State's Don Sabbarese.

"When there's lots of uncertainty in their markets and the economy, in terms of the direction of where things are going, I just can't see employers going out and hiring on permanent employees."

The state Department of Labor reports nearly one in 10 Georgians is looking for work.
