Vote on Unionization Set for Delta Flight Attendants
(2010-09-03)
(WABE) - Today, the federal board overseeing labor issues at the nation's airlines gave the go-ahead for Delta flight attendants to vote on union representation. WABE's Jim Burress reports.

The National Mediation Board set Sept. 29th as the first day of voting. Delta's 20,000+ flight attendants have until Nov. 3rd to cast a ballot.

"It's a tough thing. Delta does not want this," said John Cornelius, spokesman for the Association of Flight Attendants. He says Delta is pressuring employees for a "no" vote.

But Delta spokeswoman Gina Laughlin says the airline is simply informing flight attendants of all their options.

"We will continue to put out information to make sure that flight attendants are informed and have the facts," said Laughlin. "We will respect whatever the flight attendants decide."

Although Delta flight attendants have voted down unions in the past, new rules governing elections could change that this time. Now, all that's needed to unionize is a simple majority of those who cast a ballot.
