Black Gay Pride Expects 100,000
(2010-09-02)
(WABE) - Now in its 14th year, Atlanta's Black Gay Pride celebration is one of the city's biggest annual events with an estimated 100,000 attendees. But Ebonee Bradford-Barnes, vice president of the organization behind Black Gay Pride, says it's not just a big party.

"We're so much more than that," she said. "We bring awareness to the community. We do HIV testing, cholesterol testing, and diabetes screenings."

But attendees will have plenty of ways to party. From hanging out at the pool to a formal ball to a poetry slam, the weekend is packed.

Bradford-Barnes says people will be here from all parts of the globe to celebrate.

"Black Gay Pride is showing who we are, because before we're gay, we're black."

Finding a hotel could be difficult. Black Gay Pride has completely booked both the Lowe's Atlanta and the Georgia Tech Hotel & Conference Center.
