Contest Helps Atlantans Improve Credit Scores
(2009-12-24)
(WABE) - Getting finances in order is a popular new year's resolution.
Now, metro Atlanta residents have an extra incentive to improve their credit scores.
WABE's Jim Burress reports.

850. That's a perfect credit score. It's also the amount of a gift card the "winner" of a credit-improvement contest will walk away with.
Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Atlanta is sponsoring the contest. Twenty-five participants will have four months to improve their scores. The person who achieves the greatest percentage improvement, wins.
John Mc Cosh is with CCCS:

"We want to test our theory that somebody who recently filed bankruptcy who has a score in the 500s has just as much potential to benefit from the education we'll be providing as somebody who's in the 720s range and is trying to get up in the 750s."

McCosh says minor changes can have big effects on a credit score. He encourages people to check their reports for accuracy, and pay even a small amount towards credit cards.
