Snellville city attorney loses job over mistakes in alcohol debate
The latest chapter has cost Snellville's city attorney his job.
Mayor Jerry Oberholtzer had wanted to hold a referendum on the city's Sunday ban on alcohol sales.
But the referendum never happened because Mike Williams the city attorney didn't give voters the required 40 day notice.
In December, Snellville's city council took it into their own hands and passed an alcohol ordinance.
7 restaurants were granted beer and wine licenses, but opponents sued saying the ordinance was unconstitutional.
It's another needless obstacle, says Mayor Oberholtzer:
OBERHOLTZER: What this is, it just prevented us from issuing any more licenses. We had two restaurants who wanted serve mixed drinks and they'll be held up until we have a hearing on this.
Meanwhile, Mike Williams was let go as city attorney.
The case will be heard later this month.
