Cobb County will allow delay in tax payment for flood victims
(2009-10-23)
(WABE) - Over 700 homes in Cobb County were damaged by the September floods.

County tax officials are now extending the deadline for flood victims to file and pay their property taxes.

Property taxes were actually due October 15th.

But for those in Cobb County affected by last month's flood, tax day has been pushed to April 15th.

Cobb's Board of Commissioners decided to waive penalties and interest on late returns for flood victims.

Gail Downing, Cobb's Tax commissioner, says over 20 families have already applied for the waiver.

Downing is now urging others to apply if they're having trouble making payments.

DOWNING: To apply they need to contact my office there's an initial 50 dollar payment required then the taxpayer has until April 15th to pay what's due.

Flood victims have until December 31st to apply for the waivers.
