H1N1 Flu Shot Vaccine Arrives in Metro Clinics
ATLANTA, GA
(WABE) -
Pregnant women in the metro area should finally be able to find places where they can get vaccinated against H1N1 swine flu. Late last week, some county and regional health centers started receiving the injectable form of the vaccine.
WABE's Odette Yousef reports.
So far, public and private clinics have been offering the nasal spray form of the vaccine. But the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that pregnant woman get the shot.
On Friday, the East Metro Health District got its first shipment of the injectable vaccine: 15,200 doses. Spokesperson Suleima Salgado says if it runs out, they expect more:
SALGADO: We expect it will be enough vaccine for everyone who wants it, but just in slow increments.
The shots will be offered free of charge at public centers in Gwinnett, Newton, and Rockdale Counties, even for those who don't live there.
Cobb and Douglas counties also have the injectable vaccine, and began offering it over the weekend. Fulton and DeKalb counties are still waiting for their shipments.
